Hoai Tran was born in Central Vietnam. During his childhood years, he helped his father cutting wood and hunting wild animals to sell for food to support his family. It was during this time that he began learning Martial Arts skills and the use of medicinal herbs from his father who also taught him the use of weapons for survival purposes.

Later, he entered the Franciscan monastery where he developed a keen interest in the spirituality of Saint Francis, love and respect of nature. He went on to pursue further studies in Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts, encouraged by his uncle who himself was a well respected and well-known master in Martial Arts among the Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts community.

Under the tutelage of his father who was an herbalist and energy healer, he began to understand how medicinal herbal properties interacted with the energetics of the body. This encouraged him to later pursue extensive training in Oriental Medicine and acupuncture. He also spent time in a Zen monastery to undertake training in meditation. It was during this time that the idea of becoming a healer began to take place. Unfortunately, he had to put off his dream until much later when he had to leave his country due to war.

Since he immigrated to the United States and became a U.S. citizen, he has taught Martial Arts and energy healing arts mainly in the Northeast. He has given workshops in Pain Management to the elderly at the Asian Family Services, Inc., a mental health agency for the Asian community where he also worked as a counselor. He has been asked to present workshops in Healing arts at the semi-annual meeting of doctors of the osteopathic association in Springfield, Massachusetts. He also has given workshops in Movement and Meditation to the employees at Connecticut Renewal Team (CRT). He currently offers workshops in Meditation at the Holy Family Retreat Center in Connecticut.

He was awarded 'Master of the Year' in 1990 by the Vo Lam Kung Fu World Federation. He has been certified as 'Human and Universal Energy Master' in 1991 by the International Human and Universal Energy Research Institute. Hoai Tran has earned a Master of Divinity and has used years of training in healing arts to develop his own unique health and healing system, the An Viet Integrative Healing System.
